I tried to find a stamp that said something similar, or was more articulate than I about my... *ahem* dislike of Furries, YIFF and Cosplay... but to no avail. So, look at me, I'm on my high horse, being righteous! *tips hat*
I don't have to like anything, let alone something as bizarre and stupid as people drawing themselves as cats and dogs or dressing up like a really lame computer character. Like the stamp says, I have tried to understand it, but I just don't. If you don't like it, I don't care. If someone can explain it to me, and show me that there is some kind of creative and/or philosophical merit to these genres then PLEASE do, because I'm totally lost.
I cosplay because - I really really love sewing and brightly mixed colours & massive symbols really aren't appropriate wear for everyday life! Its more about running around all dressed up than pretending to be a character of some sort. XD Thats my explanation anyway.
that's totally fair enough, and I really (deep down, beyond the tough-guy exterior) believe that people can do whatever the fuck they want... but, at the same time, it gets to me; meh, duality, I'm full of it - I pose some questions to you, honey... why not wear it in everyday life? I mean you're a goth (right?) or a very alternative person at least, yeah? well, these are clothes that aren't part of the norm, that don't follow the grain - so really it's very similar to subcultural dress. And why not come up with your own designs or whatever (which is probably my biggest gripe with cosplayers in particular), if you love sewing so much, and you're that way inclined, be creative, be original!!... and furthermore, if it's not about character play, why wear a costume that is associated with a very particular character?

and ps. I understand liking to dress up, I worked at theatre restaurants for 5 years, FFS!

I don't wear them in everyday life because my sewing skills really aren't up to scratch. Costumes are a challenge for me, and it helps me figure out how things go together (etc). Another issue with not wearing them in everyday life is that they tend to fall apart after a days-hard-wearing. Practice makes perfect. Besides, most of the costumes I've made so far are extremely uncomfy to wear (they cut off blood circulation, are too loose, are too tight etc.);
Don't get me wrong, I love acting too! Its about both, but for me its the costume making and the feeling of accomplishment I get when I finish something so that it looks almost exactly the same as a costume. I dunno, i guess its personally exciting to me. XD
The only times I've tried to design & make things myself....well they all turned out as disasters. When I get a better grasp of what-goes-where I suppose I'll do more of my own creations!
fair enough. I still dislike cosplay, though. Each to their own. Keep practicing!

I completely agree with you, but I do dress up for Hallowe'en usually as a movie character. :]
Furries and such...are just scary but I do tend to draw myself and my boyfriend as "demonic lovers" [horns, blood, wings, fangs, blahblahblah] sometimes just for some kicks so it makes me no better. So I'm assuming that furry artists draw the way they do just to be different AND you have to give some of them credit..because some are really good.
I guess what I'm getting at is if everyone had the same damn style [WHICH in some cases, do], DA would get boring really fast.

Without the which we are pictures, or mere beasts.
I hate logging in and seeing nothing but fancharacters/cosplay on the frontpage, along with anatomically impossible furries and wolf pictures from five different artists that all look exactly the same. Where exactly do people find fulfillment in thinking they're a purple fox-wolf-corgi-horse with neon green stripes and sixteen horns sticking out of their ass?

*nods* I agree... I mean, each to their own, but I don't have to like it!

I don't see anything wrong with drawing a game/cartoon version of yourself. It can actually be fun. But, granted, creating one of yourself in terms of those whole furre rping games (i.e.: Furcadia) isn't that special.
